Copolymer is more of a traditional material, despite not being as modern as other options it still holds many advantages. Copolymer is engineered by combining several nylon monomers together creating a thinner and more stable line. Some lines are enhanced even further by the addition of fluorocarbon giving it even more qualities. Copolymer lines are more impervious to the elements which means they will last a lot longer in harsh conditions and are a lot less visible underwater compared to monofilament. This is highly useful to anglers as it not only gives you a better chance at hooking a fish due to the low visibility, but it also saves you a lot of time and energy as you don’t have to replace it as often. It is also stronger than fluorocarbon for a given diameter. This makes it more suitable to fish it with nymphs of dry flies close to the surface. When fishing dry flies on rivers it is highly useful due to its natural drift and presentation. It also doesn’t drag the fly underwater when the leader sinks. We offer many brands of copolymer including Rio, Wychwood and Snowbee. Each brand differs from the next so it is always wise to try a few different brands out and see which suits you the best.
