In the late 1980’s, Airflo’s Paul Burgess, who was a very keen fly fisherman, also happened to be a qualified engineer, and he felt he could improve upon the methods of producing fly lines. He thus set about changing the then traditional ‘tower’ process of manufacture and began extruding fly lines using modern computer controlled machines which allowed for much greater control, accuracy and versatility. Over 25 years later, Airflo are one of the world’s leading manufacturers of solvent free fly lines and by combining innovative new materials and technology, with new ideas from leading fly fishing professionals for specialist tapers and profiles, they combine both the ideas and production techniques to manufacture a vast range of specialist fly lines. They were the early developers of low-stretch cores and the originators of Polyurethane fly line coatings and welded loops.
Airflo were also pretty much responsible for developing the first density-compensated sinking fly lines allowing specific sink rates to allow fly fishermen especially to more easily find the depths at which fish are feeding. Their Hi-D range of fly lines thus became virtually the first choice of completion fly fishing anglers.
More recently, Airflo have developed advanced fly lines with Ridged coatings that reduce the friction though rod rings thus improving shootability and allowing longer casts.
Airflo now list a huge range of quality fly lines for just about every fly fishing situation.
